In 2013 I mentored a group of 10 photographers through a yearlong personal photography project at PhotoAccess in Canberra. The idea of the project was to engage and inspire participating photographers to explore the medium in new ways, with a focus on creating work that was personal in nature.
The group met up every two months, and at each session work-in-progress was shown and feedback offered. As mentor of the group I offered critique and feedback on the presented works, offering advice and direction to the participants. Individual voices and opinions soon grew more confident and the meetings became lively discussions about art, photography and life.
Our intended outcome of this project was always a group exhibition, and the time for that show has arrived! Last week we installed 11 series of works in the Huw Davies Gallery at PhotoAccess for our exhibition Personal Traces. The exhibition opens Thursday 13 March at 6pm, and everyone is welcome to attend.
If you are in Canberra between now and the end of March, come and visit the show!
